The Purple Wedding season: Joffrey’s death (the most satisfying TV poisoning ever staged) resets the board, Tyrion’s trial (“I demand a trial by combat”) and his Shae betrayal give Peter Dinklage his Emmy reel, the Hound and Arya’s road trip becomes the show’s heart, and the Battle of Castle Black (the Wall assault with giants) is spectacular. The season where the show surpassed the books in momentum — Arya sailing to Braavos, Brienne vs. the Hound, Tywin on the toilet.
