Summary

As the DMA approaches Earth and Ni’Var, Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery attempt to make First Contact with the powerful species responsible before it’s too late.

Our Take

This is a slow, quiet hour built almost entirely around a first contact sequence, and it mostly works because the alien communication stuff feels genuinely strange rather than Hollywood-simplified. The pacing drags in the middle when the crew keeps restating what’s at stake, and the DMA threat ticking down in the background adds more urgency than the episode actually needs. Worth it for the final stretch alone.
