Episode Summary & Review
Summary
While visiting Izumi, their childhood teacher, the Elrics recall the early difficulties of grasping equivalent exchange. They also discover she shares their intimate knowledge of alchemy’s greatest taboo.
Our Take
This is a quieter flashback episode, and it mostly earns its slower pace. Young Ed and Al struggling on the island gives the brothers’ training some real texture, and Izumi is a welcome addition who feels fully formed from her first scene. The reveal at the end lands with weight. It’s a bridge episode, but one with enough character work to justify itself.
