Summary
Kenny Powers heads to Mexico to lick his wounds and start a new, more anonymous life. Befriended by a neighboring Mexican family and a sultry bar singer named Vida, Kenny emerges from “the darkest hole I’ve ever been in” by planning a comeback.
Our Take
The Mexico reboot mostly works because Danny McBride playing Kenny as a fish out of water is still funny, and Vida makes a solid new mess for him to orbit around. The problem is the episode spends a lot of time on setup, so the jokes come in bursts rather than a steady flow. Worth a watch if you’re already on board, but it’s a slowish start to the season.
