Monday, September 28
Mirinho tells Graça and Ana Maria that he will run Casemiro’s business. Ana Maria disapproves and tells Graça that Casemiro’s wishes should be respected. Tonho worries about the fate of the sugar mill. José writes to Teresa on his way to Batanga. Binta and Jawari pressure Campbell into a new deal with Batanga. Januário declares his love for Ana Maria. Alika allows Omar to redo the arrangements for her trip. Mirinho announces to Tonho that he will sell the sugar mill, and Tonho assures Dona Menina, Januário and the others that they will not be left without land. Niara is discharged from the hospital. An armed man walks into Miguel’s store, and an accident follows.
Tuesday, September 29
Miguel despairs when he realizes he has taken a man’s life. Fortunato opens an investigation, and Salma fears for her father. Miguel is detained, and Omar, Lúcia and Tonho stand by Salma and her family. Malungo visits Alika and Niara and says he will return to his homeland. Ana Maria confesses her fear of losing Caetana’s company. Virgínia and Mirinho move into the sugar mill for a time. Alika has a nightmare about Jendal. Halim announces that Fuad will no longer marry Salma. José draws closer to Batanga. Jendal arrives in Brazil.
Wednesday, September 30
Jendal arrives in Recife, and Alika is haunted by another nightmare of him. Fátima despairs after Fuad refuses Salma as his wife. Mistreated by Graça and Virgínia, Mundica decides to leave the sugar mill. Miguel begs Salma’s forgiveness, and she assures her father that Fuad’s rejection is nothing to worry about. Alika hints to Omar that Salma is free to love again, and Omar declares his love for Salma. Jendal finds Malungo at the hotel and shoots him over a cliff. Alika and Tonho confess their passion for each other. Sebastião refuses Mundica a job at the town hall, and Lúcia comes to the young woman’s aid. José arrives in Batanga and meets Chinua.
Thursday, October 1
Jendal plans his journey to Barro Preto. Lúcia and Teresa hire Mundica to work in the atelier. Chinua confesses to José that he fears what Jendal is capable of. Niara says goodbye to Ana Maria and the schoolchildren. Omar offers to pay for a lawyer to free Miguel from prison. Binta proposes a deal to Campbell and demands Pascoal’s backing. José dreams of Cayman. Lúcia rebukes Mirinho for insisting on getting close to her. Onildo tells Niara that he will travel to Batanga with her. Jendal sends Virgínia a telegram announcing the day he will arrive in Barro Preto.
Friday, October 2
Jendal warns Virgínia that he expects a warm welcome. Tonho and Alika make love. Chinua introduces José, living as Zambi, to Akin and Ladisa. Marta reveals to Diógenes that Mirinho is in love with Lúcia. Mirinho tells Graça and Virgínia that he means to move them both to São Paulo. Viriato confronts Claudina over Veneranda’s false miracles. Chinua begs Campbell to help him reach Kênia, and tells Kênia that Zambi will free the princess and Dumi with Omar’s help. Sebastião hands Virgínia the telegram announcing Jendal’s arrival.
Saturday, October 3
Virgínia demands that Sebastião accompany her to receive Jendal. Teresa dreads being separated from José, and Niara and Alika comfort her. Nilo and Januário worry about the poor harvest on Tonho’s lands. Omar confirms that the minerals found there are valuable and proposes a partnership to his former rival. He tells Fátima that he intends to court Salma. Tonho shares the discovery on his lands with Alika and speaks of a future for the two of them. Gamba lets slip to Dumi that Zambi has returned. José meets Queen Menemi. Fátima overrules Miguel and approves Salma’s romance with Omar. Virgínia prepares to receive Jendal.
