What Happens

Emery has been betrayed and sold, and the newborn she carried was taken from her. She is sure nothing is left. One year on, she walks into the Dragon King’s palace, where Alaric Pyrewind rules.

His young daughter Juno does not speak and has turned away every shifter brought to her. Then the girl sees Emery and calls her Mama. With Emery close, Juno starts to mend, and the king starts to notice the woman his child picked. The fantasy dressing is dragon-shifters; the actual genre is found-family, and the toddler is the lead, not the prop.

Our take: the chosen-by-the-baby premise is ancient soap machinery (who remembers which nanny the heiress’s child clung to?) and it works here because the child is written, not managed. The court intrigue around the silent princess gives the 54 episodes somewhere to walk. Lowest view count of our first six, highest rewatch value.

Should you watch it?

It’s the wholesome end of the fantasy lane: if you’re tired of fated-mates being a threat, this is the one where a kid’s choice is the whole plot.
