Kite Man: Hell Yeah! is what happens when a Harley Quinn side gag grows up and gets its own Max series: Matt Oberg’s Kite Man, the joke villain with the kite gun, and Stephanie Hsu’s Golden Glider relocate to Gotham to rebuild their villain résumés after the A-list left them for dead. It premiered July 2024 and holds 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show works because it understands its losers. Kite Man’s delusion is played as sincerity rather than cruelty, Golden Glider is his equal rather than his prop, and Gotham’s backdrop of washouts, hangers-on and forgotten Arkham regulars gives it a comedy bench the mainline shows cannot field. The Harley adjacent voice bench and the same grown up pacing help, but the heart is a middle aged cartoon couple who just want to matter to somebody.

It is the best of the Harleyverse branch and arguably the funniest thing in the DC animated catalog that is not Harley herself: short episodes, zero pretension, and a rare superhero show that spends its whole season on the people the A-listers step over. Watch it after Harley Quinn or don’t, it stands alone fine. Ten episodes on Max.
