Our Review
Affable and honest extension of the original film: Ariel trades coral royalty for adventures in her own world and the human one, with Flounder, Sebastian, and new mermaid friends like Alana. The scripts are gentle, the songs are new and genuinely sweet, and the animation is a clear step above the direct-to-video sequels surrounding it.
The show works best when Ariel’s curiosity is the engine rather than the premise, and the island adventure episodes have real tension for the target age. Nothing here replaces the 1989 film; everything here extends its world for the kids who kept asking for more of it.
Thirty one episodes, low stakes, no cynicism. Our score: 6/10. A fine watch for a young Ariel fan and a pleasant nostalgia hit for the adults who wore out the VHS.
