Goofy as a suburban dad, Pete as his next-door nemesis: Goof Troop is a family sitcom in a cartoon skin, and the warmest show of the Disney Afternoon. Max and PJ are the best kid double act of the block, and the neighborhood plots, jobs, dates, PTA wars, could sit inside any live action family show of the era.
The running gag of Goofy accidentally tormenting Pete is endless fun, and what keeps it working is that the feud never crosses into real meanness: two single parents raising their kids next door, bickering forever, caring always.
Sixty five episodes of low-stakes comfort viewing with a handful of genuine gems. It is the mildest of the block, which is either its charm or its ceiling depending on your mood. Our score: 7/10. The right pick when you want cozy rather than adventurous.
