The best looking and best written of the Disney Afternoon shows, a sly 1930s aviation adventure about a lazy bear pilot, a bankrupt cargo airline, and the businesswoman who owns it. Rebecca Cunningham is one of the best written mothers in kids television: capable, sharp, funny, never sidelined, and her adopted son Kit is a worthy partner in mischief.
The adult double-talk is legendary, with air barons and oil tycoons running plots you mostly appreciate at thirty. The jungle, the seaplanes, the noir lighting, it all still looks great on a modern screen, and the heist and rescue plots have actual logic.
Only one sixty five episode run, and the cliffhanger finale was left hanging when the planned second season went unfunded. Watch it anyway; it is widely considered the peak of the block. Our score: 8/10. The most rewatchable Disney Afternoon show.
