Our Review
The most interesting Star Wars film and the most divisive one. The Last Jedi takes the mystery boxes its predecessor left and throws them off a cliff: Rey’s parents are nobody, Luke Skywalker is a broken hermit, and the lesson is that the force belongs to anyone. Rian Johnson made the only sequel with an actual point of view, and half the fandom never forgave him for it.
The good parts are the best in the trilogy: the throne room fight, the Luke and Rey training scenes, the Holdo maneuver that turned a hyperspace jump into the franchise’s most beautiful single image. The bad parts are real too: the Canto Bight detour drags, and the Poe Holdo conflict runs on people not telling each other things.
Love it or argue with it, it is the only one of the three sequels that still generates conversation. Our score: 7/10. Tonight watch it for the visuals and Mark Hamill’s best performance in the role.
