Our Review
The Rise of Skywalker is a finale that apologizes for its predecessor instead of building on it. Mystery boxes get reopened, a dead villain returns via a voice cameo economy, and the plot sprints through revelations at a pace that feels like someone reading you a wiki summary while you run for a bus.
What survives: the leads. Ridley, Boyega, and Isaac have real chemistry and sell the found family the trilogy always aimed for; the Rey and Kylo team up sequence is genuinely thrilling, and Driver’s turn from villain to sacrifice lands with real feeling. The finale montage, whatever its retroactive reach, at least commits to an ending.
The trio finally shares real scenes together after two films apart, and Babu Frik steals his ninety seconds. But the film’s instinct to course correct every choice The Last Jedi made leaves the trilogy feeling like three different stories stapled together. Our score: 5/10. Tonight watch it to finish the saga, then put on Empire to remember why you started.
