Summary
In a world not so different from our own, policemen wear masks to protect their identities so their loved ones can’t be harmed by criminals. The 7th Kavalry, a supremacist group, emerges from hiding with a plan that threatens the world. And somewhere, the Lord of the Manor writes a play as squids rain down from the sky.
Our Take
A dense, confusing opener that throws a lot at the wall without explaining much. The alt-history Tulsa setting is genuinely striking and Regina King anchors everything, but the plot threads feel scattered and the squid weather reads more silly than intriguing. Worth a look for the atmosphere and ambition, just don’t expect it to hold your hand.
