Our Review
Rob Lowe as a Manhattan firefighter who moves to Austin with his son and takes over a Texas firehouse that does not want him. It is the 9-1-1 formula at maximum soap: city meets country, every call is a catastrophe, and somebody is always one episode away from a wedding or a funeral.
It works because the cast commits hard. Rob Lowe plays grief and swagger in the same scene, Liv Tyler (and later Gina Torres) grounds the medical side, and Jim Parrack’s gentle giant Judd is the heart of the 126. The rescues are ridiculous in the way fans of this franchise want them to be. If you like your procedurals with a side of full-blown melodrama, this is the one.
