Our Review

The Original Series. Where every bit of it started: William Shatner’s Captain Kirk, Leonard Nimoy’s Spock, and a five year mission that only ran three seasons but changed television forever. Gene Roddenberry’s optimism, a multiracial crew in the middle of the 1960s, and morality plays wearing space costumes.

The honest viewing guide: the effects are 1966 and the pacing is of its era, but the best episodes (City on the Edge of Forever, Balance of Terror, The Trouble with Tribbles, Mirror Mirror) remain genuinely great drama. The third season dips hard. Most newcomers are better served starting with The Next Generation and circling back here for the classics, and that is fine: this is the foundation, and foundations are allowed to be visited rather than lived in.

Our take: 8/10. Historical essential, and better than nostalgia tells you.
