Lanterns
Our Review
The Green Lantern show that finally gets the property right: a cosmic police procedural that plays like True Detective with power rings. Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler, perfect casting — a weary veteran cop of the space lanes) is paired with John Stewart (Aaron Pierre, the show’s center — a new Lantern learning the beat), investigating a murder in rural America whose trail leads somewhere much bigger. James Gunn’s DCU era’s first proper cosmic swing, and it lands the tone the 2011 movie fumbled: the ring is a tool, the Corps is a job, and the sci-fi is grounded by character work.
The central dynamic — old hand and rookie, cynicism and idealism, both men carrying the job’s weight differently — gives every case scene a spine, and the slow reveal balances small-town noir with galaxy-scale stakes. The show understands what GL fans always said: the best Lantern stories are cop stories wearing cosmic armor.
Verdict: Watch it — the redemption the emerald property always deserved. In brightest day, finally.
