Two idiots laugh at music videos. That was the whole pitch in 1993, and somehow Mike Judge built one of the most influential animated shows ever out of it, then handed the culture the template for idiot comedy that everything from Jackass to internet reaction videos owes something to.
The 2022 revival is the surprise: Butt-Head analyzing TikTok instead of MTV is somehow just as funny, and the new seasons keep the original’s deadpan stupidity while updating the targets. Judge’s later voice (the dry humanity of King of the Hill and Silicon Valley) shows up in the margins.
It is dumb. It is supposed to be dumb. It is dumb with the precision of a Swiss watch.
Our take: 8/10. Stupidity as an art form, still undefeated.
