A boy saddled with debt merges with his chainsaw devil dog and becomes a weapon for the government’s devil hunters. MAPPA’s film grade production, the needle drops, and Denji’s simple dreams, real bread, a normal life, make this the coolest thing in anime.
Part splatter comedy, part surprisingly sad story about wanting to be touched by kindness. The movie continuation keeps raising the bar.
