Billy Bob Thornton as a crisis fixer for a West Texas oil company, forever talking his way out of explosions, lawsuits, and cartel entanglements. Sheridan’s boomtown series has the best monologues on TV right now: Thornton delivers a speech about how the world really works and you want to stand up and clap.
The family drama is thinner and the women characters get the short end of the stick, but the oil patch authenticity and the lead performance carry it. Worth it for Thornton alone.
