Our Review

Oscar Isaac’s dual performance is the show: Steven Grant, a meek British gift-shop clerk with dissociative identity disorder, discovers his body is shared with Marc Spector — a mercenary serving Khonshu, the Egyptian moon god, as its fist of vengeance. The show plays the DID (portrayed with unusual care — Isaac’s two performances are technically dazzling: posture, accent, energy) as both superhero origin and mental-health story, and the first three episodes — Steven unraveling what his other self has been doing — are gripping television.

Ethan Hawke’s Arthur Harrow (a cult leader serving Ammit, the goddess who punishes sin before it happens — pre-crime theology) is a quietly terrifying villain with a genuine philosophical case; May Calamawy’s Layla (who gets a superhero arc of her own, the MCU’s first Egyptian heroine) grounds the Egyptology with heart. The finale’s gods-and-duat material goes big and a bit weightless, but the ending lands on the show’s real point: Steven and Marc learning to live with themselves. It’s a standalone Marvel story — no Avengers cameos, no universe stakes — and that intimacy is its strength.

Verdict: Watch it. The MCU’s odd duck — a superhero show about learning to live with yourself.
