Our Review

One of Netflix’s best supernatural shows, canceled after one season. In an alternate London overrun by ghosts (“the Problem”), only young people can see and fight them — so agencies of teenage operatives hunt spirits with rapiers, iron chains, and magnesium flares. Lucy Carlyle, a runaway with exceptional listening talents, joins Lockwood & Co. — the smallest agency in London, run by the charming, secretive Anthony Lockwood — alongside the sardonic researcher George.

Based on Jonathan Stroud’s novels, the show nails the source’s tone: genuinely creepy ghost encounters (the ghost-lock, the death-glare of a Type Two) balanced with found-family warmth and dry British humor. The chemistry of the three leads (Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman, Ali Hadji-Heshmati) is instant, the atmosphere is immersive, and the season’s mystery (the secret in the locked room) resolves beautifully while setting up more. Canceled too soon, like everything good.

Verdict: Watch it. Death is not the end — and neither, fans hope, is cancellation.
