Our Review

The expanded-League sequel where the training wheels came off. Unlimited grew the roster to 60+ heroes (Green Arrow, the Question, Black Canary, Huntress, Booster Gold) and let the deep cuts carry episodes — Double Date (the Question and Huntress, a romance in four fists), The Greatest Story Never Told (Booster Gold saving the world while nobody watches), Epilogue (the true ending of Batman Beyond, one of the finest half-hours of animation ever made).

The season-long Cadmus arc is the best superhero TV serial ever produced: the League versus a government watchdog program, with Amanda Waller (CCH Pounder, definitive) as an antagonist who’s arguably right, Lex Luthor running for president, and a finale that resolves four series’ worth of DCAU mythology. Dwayne McDuffie’s writing staff used the infinite roster to tell stories the big seven couldn’t — and that made the universe feel real.

Verdict: Watch it. The best superhero television series ever produced. That’s not nostalgia — it’s the standings.
