Summary
In the last episode before the epic season finale, Ward’s betrayal and HYDRA’s shocking secrets are revealed as Coulson’s team goes undercover on a mission that leaves no one unscathed.
Our Take
The flashbacks to Ward’s childhood do the heavy lifting here, and they mostly work, giving his betrayal a real emotional anchor even if the “tortured by Garrett” angle feels a bit convenient. The undercover mission itself is thin and the pacing sags in the middle. Still, the final scenes set up the finale well enough that it earns its runtime.
