In Future-Worm! a 12-year-old boy creates a time machine lunch box and befriends a fearless worm from the future.

Our Review

A sweet little Disney XD curiosity from the early-2010s animation boom: Danny Douglas, a kid inventor, builds a time machine that accidentally attracts Future Worm — a fearless, sunglasses-wearing worm from the future who becomes his best friend and adventure buddy. Together they eat pill-shaped food, visit improbable futures, and learn suspiciously little, as befits a kids’ show with Adult-Swim-adjacent DNA (creator Ryan Quincy was a South Park veteran).

Short-form episodes (eleven minutes, some shorter) keep the pacing breezy, and the low-stakes charm is the point — it’s a friendship show wearing time travel as a costume. The animation is bright flat-design with live-action interstitials, and the guest voices are a who’s-who of comedy nerds. It never aimed higher than pleasant, and it hit that target consistently for two seasons.

Verdict: Watch it with a kid, or when you want the animated equivalent of a Saturday-morning nap.
