The adaptation nobody expected to be good: Donald Glover and Maya Erskine as two lonely spies, paired by a shadow agency into a fake marriage — cover names, a fake house, and a series of escalating missions designed to test whether the partnership (and the marriage) is real. The show’s genius move: it’s a relationship drama wearing a spy thriller’s clothes. The missions are inventive, but every set piece doubles as a marriage-counseling session — two guarded professionals learning intimacy through tradecraft.

Glover and Erskine have chemistry for days — her dry anxiety against his careful charm — and the structure (episodes tracking the relationship’s stages) gives the action real stakes. The guest-heavy mission format is superb. It’s the rare IP reimagining that justifies itself by ignoring the movie entirely — keeping only the premise’s question: can two liars build something true?

Verdict: Watch it. The best rom-com-spy hybrid in years.
