The Bondsman
Our Review
Kevin Bacon as a dead bounty hunter resurrected — by the Devil, to hunt demons who’ve escaped hell, and the job comes with a leash. The show splits its tone between Southern-fried pulp (Bacon’s Hub Halloran, a Kentucky good-ol’-boy badass with estranged sons and an ex-wife who’s moved on — to his old partner, no less) and horror-comedy creature-feature (the demons are properly gross, the exorcisms are shootouts).
Bacon’s having a blast, and the family drama (his musician son, the ex-wife, the matriarch who knows more than she says) gives the monster-hunting a real spine. Jennifer Nettles as the mom who made a deal is the show’s secret weapon. Eight episodes, complete story — the kind of mid-budget genre TV that used to be a Friday-night staple and is now a rare pleasure.
Verdict: Watch it for Bacon alone. Demons, revenants, and Kentucky grudges — a fun ride.
