The stylized reinvention: angular, cartoony designs that divided fans and won them over — a young Optimus Prime leading a maintenance crew (not heroes — repair bots) who stumble into defending Detroit from the Decepticons’ return. The show’s cheeky tone (the human… — — the… — — the villain personalities (the… — — Blitzwing’s triple-changer triple-personality, Lugnut’s fanatical devotion, the human villain… — — mixes comedy with surprisingly sharp serialized drama.

The AllSpark mythology, the… — the… — the… — the Decepticons-as-genuine-threats (the show’s version of Megatron is one of the franchise’s most competent), and the Detroit setting (the… — the city-as-character) give it a distinct identity. Canceled after three seasons; a cult favorite that earned it.
