The lost ship: the USS Voyager, dragged 70,000 light-years to the Delta Quadrant, begins a 75-year journey home with a crew of Starfleet officers and Maquis rebels forced into one family. Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Janeway — the first female Trek captain to carry a series — is the show’s spine: a scientist-warrior who breaks the Prime Directive when her crew’s survival demands it (the Tuvix decision remains Trek’s most-debated morality hour).
Seven of Nine’s introduction in season 4 (a reclaimed Borg drone learning to be human — Jeri Ryan’s masterclass) redefined the series, and the Doctor (Robert Picardo) became the franchise’s best character-actor showcase. The highs: Year of Hell, Blink of an Eye (a civilization evolving in days), Equinox. Seven seasons of solid Trek with real peaks — better than its reputation.
Verdict: Watch it. The middle-tier Trek that’s better than you remember.
