The best Star Trek in 30 years — a show that understood the assignment: go back to episodic storytelling, put good actors on a starship, and let them explore. Anson Mount’s Captain Pike is the warm center the franchise needed: a man who knows his own terrible future and chooses the chair anyway. His confidence and kindness recalibrate the whole show.

This is Trek doing what Trek does best — planet-of-the-week, moral dilemma, comedy episode (Spock Amok!), musical episode (yes, really, and it works), and slow-burn serialized threads that never overwhelm the weekly story. Rebecca Romijn’s Number One, Ethan Peck’s young Spock, and Celia Rose Gooding’s Uhura give the legacy characters real interiority without stepping on the originals’ toes. The production design is gorgeous — the Enterprise corridors finally feel like a place people live.

Verdict: Watch it first if you’ve been Trek-curious. This is the gateway. Live long and stream.
