Trey Parker and Matt Stone took their crude paper cutout cartoon to the big screen and somehow made the funniest movie musical of the 90s. When the boys sneak into an R rated Canadian film and come home swearing like dockworkers, their mothers blame Canada, and the blame escalates into a full war, while Satan and a needy Saddam Hussein plot an apocalypse from below. The plot is a genuinely sharp musical about censorship, scapegoating, and parents who outsource blame, and the joke is that the filthiest movie of the year is the one making the most coherent argument.
