Michael Dobbs wrote the political thriller that gave House of Cards its blueprint, and Netflix is now adapting his 2007 novel The Lord’s Day with Damson Idris leading and executive producing. The setup is a nightmare scenario for British statecraft: on the State Opening of Parliament, spy Harry Jones finds himself inside an iconic building during a lockdown, and as the siege escalates the loyalties around him start to slip. Dobbs knows how to make procedure feel like knife fighting, and the material is being adapted for screen by Peter Harness, whose work on Killing Eve season two proved he can keep a thriller air tight.
Idris is the reason this climbs the list: Botched, Snowpiercer, and the recent slow burn of his film choices suggest an actor picking carefully, and a lead who can carry quiet tension in a confined building is worth a production’s while. More cast has been announced around him as the project moves through development toward the camera.
