The Imperfects
Our Review
A trio of twenty-somethings turned into monsters by experimental gene therapy — a young man whose DNA expresses as a chupacabra, a woman whose voice kills, a man who regenerates — hunt for the scientist who made them while a shadowy organization chases them all. The premise is X-Men-lite with a YA gloss; the execution is a genre blender that never finds its tone.
The three leads (Italia Ricci, Morgan Taylor Campbell, Rhianna Jagpal, plus Iñaki Godoy pre-One Piece) are likable and the monster-of-the-week structure has charm, but the writing is thinnest when it should be sharpest — the villain is a rerun, and the mythology never coheres. Canceled after one season on a cliffhanger. Watchable, forgettable, the kind of show that lives in the “because you watched” queue.
Verdict: Watch it if you’ve exhausted the genre. A decent B-side — nothing imperfect enough to hate, nothing memorable enough to keep.
