Our Review

The Early Word, because nothing has aired yet and nobody should pretend otherwise. Peacock announced in late September that Ted: The Animated Series premieres Thursday, December 17, 2026, with an initial batch of eight episodes and additional episodes to follow in 2027. This is the direct animated continuation of the two live action Ted films, picking up twelve years after Ted 2 left them: John and his thunder-buddy Ted are neighbors, both with families of their own and dead-end jobs, enabling each other’s worst ideas about marriage and parenting. Seth MacFarlane returns as the voice of Ted, and the big screen originals all came back with him: Mark Wahlberg as John, Amanda Seyfried as Sam, Jessica Barth as Tami-Lynn. Peacock has dropped a teaser and first-look images, but no full episodes and no reviews to judge, so there is no score from us and there will not be a made up one either.

The context is worth having. The franchise took a hard left turn with the live action prequel ted, also on Peacock, which sent the character back to his 1990s teen years with Max Burkholder as young John; that series ran two seasons, the second premiered in March 2026, became Peacock’s top streaming comedy with over a billion watch minutes, and then MacFarlane said cost ruled out a third. The animated sequel is the pivot that keeps the character on the payroll, and it has the original film cast back in formation, which the prequel deliberately could not use. Fuzzy Door and UCP produce, MacFarlane’s May 2025 order finally getting its date after he finished the prequel’s second season.

What to watch for when it lands: whether the animated format buys the character the R-rated freedom the films had (the prequel skewed softer, family adjacent, and half the fanbase wants the old Ted back), whether Seyfried and Barth get more than kitchen-table duties, and whether twelve years of married Ted has any engine left after two films and two prequel seasons. We will review it properly the week it premieres, with a score earned from episodes you can actually watch. Until then this page is the filing cabinet for what Peacock has confirmed, and nothing more.
