Scrubs is back on ABC with a two episode Season 2 premiere, and showrunner Aseem Batra now has numbers on how often fans will see the old guard. Dr. Cox appears in the opener as J.D. admits him to Sacred Heart for treatment, and Batra confirms McGinley will surface in two more episodes later in the season. Reyes, who films the ABC hit High Potential in Los Angeles, recurs as Carla five to six times this season.
The premiere also leaned on three new faces: SNL alum John Higgins as the new Chief Resident Grant, Keyla Monterroso Mejia as surgical nurse Mimi, and Tamera Mowry-Housley guest starring as pediatric doctor Dr. Steffie. Ava Bunn, promoted to series regular in July, now anchors the intern pool as the show rotates the other interns in and out episode to episode. Joel Kim Booster and X Mayo wrote out during the hiatus, one by creative decision and one by scheduling.
Fan favorites are not done either. Batra says Neil Flynn returns as the Janitor for a reunion with the Maintenance Guy, Scott Foley comes back as Sean in episode 3, and Johnny Kastl is lined up for the end of the season, with Flavor Flav and Joey Fatone already popping up as cameos. New episodes stream the next day on Hulu.
