Jeremy drives the Chrysler Crossfire. Richard Hammond tries the new lightning fast Smart Car which has been fitted with twin turbos. James May looks at two of the biggest surprises this year: the rejuvenation of Birmingham and Jaguar’s superb XJ6. Clarkson also compares two Type R cars from Honda with the Civic and NSX. And this week’s Star in a Reasonably Priced Car is Countdown’s glamorous maths whiz Carol Vordeman.

Our Take

A solid grab-bag episode with no big stunt to anchor it, which is fine because the segments are strong. The twin-turbo Smart race is the highlight, and May’s sincere affection for Birmingham makes for a nice change of pace. Carol Vorderman turns out to be surprisingly game in the reasonably priced car. Worth catching if you’re a fan.
