Deflectors

Episode Summary & Review

Summary

A famous engineer from Moclus comes aboard the Orville to upgrade the deflectors. He tells Talla that he is attracted to her, but in secret, since being attracted to females is stigmatized on Moclus, and would result in a prison sentence. Klyden confronts him about his sexual orientation, and later becomes the suspect for his murder.

Our Take

This one leans hard on Moclan politics again, and if you’re tired of that storyline, the first half drags. But the murder mystery back half picks things up, and the resolution actually lands emotionally instead of feeling like a lecture. A middling episode with a strong finish, worth watching mostly for how it shakes up Bortus and Klyden’s marriage.
