Summary
Captain Janeway takes three crew members with poor performance records on an away mission in the Delta Flyer to bring them up to Starfleet standards. However, an unexpected collision with a Dark Matter comet leaves the crew in a dangerous situation. Plus, an unexpected attack forces them to work together to survive.
Our Take
A quiet character episode that finally gives the background nobodies a spotlight, and it mostly earns it. The three misfits feel like real people with actual reasons for coasting, and Janeway’s mentorship angle suits her. The dark matter comet threat is generic, but the crew dynamics carry it. Worth watching for the smaller moments, not the peril.
