Equinox, Part I

Episode Summary & Review

Summary

Voyager encounters another Federation starship, the USS Equinox, commanded by Captain Rudy Ransom, which the Caretaker also abducted and stranded in the Delta Quadrant. As Janeway tries to figure out Captain Ransom, hostile aliens attack both ships. However, the Doctor exposes a terrible secret the Equinox crew harbors, and Ransom steals Voyager’s technology and takes Seven of Nine and the Doctor as hostages.

Our Take

A gripping season finale that finally gives Voyager a real gut-punch dilemma. John Savage plays Ransom with just enough charm to make his crew’s dark secret genuinely unsettling, and the cliffhanger lands hard. Some of the alien attacks feel like filler, but the moral standoff between the two captains crackles. Easily one of the strongest hours this show has produced, and worth your time.
