Summary
Kes is accidentally injured at a sacred shrine and Captain Janeway undergoes a arduous spiritual test in order to try and save her on the Nechani world.
Our Take
A slower, more meditative hour than Voyager usually attempts, and credit for trying something different even if the execution is uneven. Mulgrew sells Janeway’s frustration with faith she can’t measure, but the ritual scenes drag and the mystery behind the shrine feels undercooked. Worth a watch for the character work, just don’t expect the payoff to fully land.
