Summary

The Enterprise brings eminent scientist Dr. Paul Stubbs to the site of a binary star system, expecting a massive stellar explosion to occur in a few hours. He has waited many years for this event and has devoted his entire life to its study. The Enterprise, however, begins to suffer a series of malfunctions, some minor but others far more serious.

Our Take

A solid season opener that balances a decent science mystery with Wesley’s first real step toward adulthood, and the show handles his guilt better than you’d expect. Stubbs is a fun guest character, even if his obsession subplot gets a bit repetitive. Not a landmark hour, but it moves well and sets a confident tone for season three.
