Summary
Spurred by reports of misdeeds in Starfleet’s top echelon, Captain Picard heads for Earth to uncover the truth.
Our Take
A rare first-season hour with actual tension and some genuine creepiness, as Picard uncovers rot at the heart of Starfleet. The paranoid mood mostly holds up, and the infamous finale goes further than the show ever would again. The plotting is a bit thin in the middle, but it’s still one of the stronger episodes of a shaky season.
