Everything conspires against the wedding. Danilo asserts that Sebástian may be involved in Tonico’s kidnapping. Ana Francisca accuses him of failing to defend his son and tells him to admit that he has lost her. He retorts that he never wanted her. Danilo leaves promising to uncover everything for Tonico’s sake. Horácio sends a telegram announcing that he is about to arrive. At the dressmaker’s, Bernardete refuses to take the dress off in front of Cássia, but asks her to do so without ceremony. She then confesses to her mother that she felt a strange heat, but Jezebel brushes it off. Márcia cuts Estelinha’s hair against the girl’s wishes. Danilo snatches his cousin away from the salon. Olga is thrilled when Danilo agrees to be her escort at the wedding. Sebástian denies every accusation and Ana Francisca believes his sincerity. Everyone gets ready for the wedding. Milady makes Jezebel spill wine on Ana Francisca’s wedding dress. Carmem thinks it is a bad omen and begs her not to marry. Danilo hopes the wedding will be delayed so Horácio has time to arrive. Ana Francisca sends word that she will be late and mobilizes everyone to get the stain out of her dress. Roseli refuses to sit with Yvete in church because she is the factory director. Jezebel has a fit when she sees Roseli wearing a dress identical to hers. Bernardete gives Fabrício a shove. Márcia throws rice powder on the stain. Vivaldo sits down next to Jezebel. Olga waits anxiously for Danilo. Bernardete reacts when Terêncio remarks that she has swollen glands. Horácio arrives. Olga refuses to sit next to Peixoto and pulls Estelinha to her side. Márcia orders a very hot iron placed on the stain and the dress catches fire. Timóteo stops Danilo from speaking to the priest. Ana Francisca decides to put on another dress, and Margarido stares in surprise when she comes downstairs. Everyone is aghast when Ana Francisca walks into the church dressed in black. Danilo interrupts the ceremony, announcing that the groom is going to jail. Juvenal, the accomplice, the police chief from another town and Horácio enter the church.
