Summary
In shock after a loss, Annette shares the story of her escape from slavery and her journey from Saint-Domingue. Chaos erupts at a public gathering.
Our Take
Annette’s backstory episode fills in some needed history, but the flashback structure feels a bit standard and the emotional beats land harder than expected thanks to strong voice work. The riot at the end finally kicks the plot into gear after a slow middle stretch. Decent, though the animation during the Saint-Domingue scenes looks noticeably cheaper than the rest.
