Summary
Jim goes on a bender with his new nihilistic friend, Elle, who pushes him towards a new level of destruction. Brockmire ends up in the hospital again and finally takes rehab seriously. Charles approaches Jim with a new opportunity.
Our Take
This is a bleak one, and that’s mostly the point. The bender with Elle gets uncomfortably dark before the rehab turn lands, and Hank Azaria sells every ugly second of it. The problem is the Elle material feels a bit like a retread of things the show has already covered. Still, the Charles offer at the end sets up a hook that makes it worth sitting through the misery.
