Summary

Jesse goes on the lam in the third-season finale. But Mike is right on his heels, so Walt works a deal with Gus and comes up with an unsettling plan that might help guarantee both his and Jesse’s safety.

Our Take

The finale is a chess masterclass. Gus, moving to replace Walt with Gale, gives the order; Walt, cornered, realizes the only move left is to remove the replacement. He’s abducted by Mike, calls Jesse from the lab’s phone under the pretense of a family emergency, and gives the address. Jesse, gun shaking, knocks on Gale’s door. The season ends on the sound of a gunshot we never see — the show’s most famous cliffhanger, and the point of no return for everyone: Walt is now a man who orders murders, Jesse is now a murderer, and Gus’s revenge has just begun.
