Jake the Starchild

Episode Summary & Review

Summary

In order to fulfill his grand destiny, Jake is spirited away by a strangely familiar shape shifting alien.

Our Take

This one leans hard into Adventure Time’s cosmic weirdness, and it mostly works because Jake’s laid-back charm grounds all the alien lore being thrown at us. The father-son material with Warren Ampersand gives the episode some real emotional weight, though the pacing drags in the middle stretch. Worth a watch for fans keeping up with the final season’s serialized threads, but it’s not an essential hour on its own.
