The Avatar universe is expanding again, and this time it is going backward before it goes forward. At the New York Comic Con panel on Friday, franchise co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko announced Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, a new animated series headed to Paramount+ with Konietzko set to showrun and Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation producing.
Same panel, same day, same slide deck: Seven Havens, which premiered on Paramount+ last Friday, was renewed for two more seasons, which the franchise dubs Books 3 and 4. That is a lot of runway for a show that had not yet aired past its first thirteen episodes, and it tells you how confident Paramount is in the post-Korra timeline.

If you have not caught up yet: Avatar: Seven Havens is the first new 2D-animated Avatar series in twelve years. It lands 225 years after The Legend of Korra and follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar and is promptly treated as a harbinger of doom by the very people she is supposed to save. Book 1 is streaming now, episodes dropping weekly.
It is a busy stretch for the franchise. The Netflix live-action adaptation wrapped its third and final season in front of the cameras, with that finale season landing in 2027, and the Avatar Legends fighting game just picked up a Seven Havens expansion. Between Netflix and Paramount+, there has never been more Avatar on the schedule. Kuruk fills in a gap fans have wondered about for a decade: the era of the forgotten Avatar between Kyoshi and Aang.
