Monday, September 21
The day of Mirinho and Virgínia’s wedding arrives, and the groom faints at the altar before the two finally marry. Sebastião leaves the church in tears, which puts Bartô on alert, and Ana Maria squirms at standing beside Manoel as godmother while Januário takes note. In Batanga, Kênia toils in the mines while Binta and Pascoal celebrate their revenge against the princess, and Jendal nears Brazil. Onildo tells Alika that Niara risks death.
Tuesday, September 22
Tonho shelters Alika, and the two kiss, with Omar catching them in the act. On his wedding night, Mirinho calls Virgínia by the name Lúcia, while Fuad suspects Salma is jealous of his interest in Belmira as Salma keeps thinking about Omar. Pascoal and Binta start a new plan to break the rebellion in Batanga, and Binta presses Campbell over it. Fortunato is rude to Manoel, who suffers from Ana Maria’s neglect, and Alika aches to see Niara so weakened.
Wednesday, September 23
Casemiro feels ill and quietly asks Tonho to look after his sugar mill and Ana Maria, which puts the boy on his guard. Pascoal assaults Dumi and Kênia despairs, while Salma declares her feelings to Omar. Campbell warns Binta about the consequences of ending Batanga’s contract with England, and Akin and Ladisa strike a deal with Gamba to protect Dumi. Onildo reports that Niara has improved, and then, in front of Mirinho and Ana Maria, Casemiro collapses and does not survive.
Thursday, September 24
Graça despairs over Casemiro’s death as the whole community reels, and Tonho is distraught when Alika tells him the old man suffered a sudden illness. At the wake, Tonho proposes that he and Mirinho become friends again in honor of Casemiro. Mirinho discovers that Casemiro left his lands to Tonho, and Virgínia starts to fear her husband will decide to stay at the sugar mill. Niara’s health strengthens and Alika celebrates, while Gamba introduces himself to Dumi and Kênia as an ally of the rebellion.
Friday, September 25
Mirinho announces that he will handle Casemiro’s business, then tells Tonho he will sell the sugar mill, while Ana Maria tells Graça that Casemiro’s wishes should be respected. Tonho promises Dona Menina, Januário and the others that they will not be left without land, and Januário declares his feelings to Ana Maria. José writes to Teresa on the road to Batanga, while Binta and Jawari press Campbell for a new deal with Batanga. Niara is discharged from the hospital, and an armed man walks into Miguel’s warehouse, where Miguel ends up causing an accident.
Saturday, September 26
Miguel despairs at having taken a man’s life and is detained, while Fortunato opens an investigation and Salma fears for her father. Omar, Alika and Tonho stand with Salma and her family, and Halim announces that Fuad will not marry Salma after all. Virgínia and Mirinho move out to the sugar mill for a while, and Ana Maria confesses she is afraid of losing Caetana’s company. Alika wakes from a nightmare about Jendal as José closes in on Batanga, and Jendal finally arrives in Brazil.
