Dermot Mulroney will make his final appearance as Chief Dom Pascal when Chicago Fire opens its Season 15 on NBC tonight. The actor joined the firefighter drama in Season 13 as the new head of Firehouse 51, stepping into the chair left by Eamonn Walker’s Wallace Boden, and Deadline first reported his departure in late July.
Pascal was dismissed from the Chicago Fire Department in the second half of Season 14 and returned only briefly in the finale, which ended with much of Firehouse 51 trapped in a warehouse blaze. Mulroney confirmed at a Chicago fan convention that the choice to end the character came from the show, not from him, and said the writers gave him an incredible storyline. He called the exit bitter because of what the series means to first responders and their families.
The departure is one of several changes landing on 51 at once. Original cast member Joe Minoso also wraps his storyline early in Season 15, and Victor Teran has taken over as showrunner from Andrea Newman. Chicago Fire Season 15 premieres October 7 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
