Summary

In Sicily, James goes for a ride on a nimble mountain goat (the Maserati quattroporte). Richard says goodbye to a motoring icon: the Rover V8 engine. Jeremy and Richard race a diesel car against a petrol car of similar power. Jeremy takes “The fastest car you can buy in the world today” (the Ford GT40) for a spin on the test track. Top Gear borrows a Boeing 747 to see whether a Ford Mondeo and a Citroen 2CV can withstand its crosswind. And actor Martin Clunes (Men Behaving Badly, Doc Martin, Reggie Perrin) behaves not badly in A Reasonably Priced Car.

Our Take

A properly packed hour where the Ford GT segment alone justifies tuning in, even if Jeremy’s gushing about it runs a bit long. The 747 crosswind test is exactly the kind of daft stunt this show does best, and Clunes turns out to be surprisingly game in the reasonably priced car. Classic-era Top Gear firing on most cylinders.
